This young people’s home, located in the Kandal province, today accommodates 40 children between the ages of 8 and 22 who have either been orphaned or whose parents are unable to care for them. APLC, a Sre Ampil historic partner since it was set up in 1994, acted as coordinator for three groups of young volunteers, whose mission was to provide both teaching and fun activities and also to do a bit of renovation work, during July and August.
For a few weeks, they kept the children busy during their free time, giving them English and IT lessons, teaching them songs, organising shows and sporting events, as well as helping out with the renovation of the verandas of the two buildings and the paving, under the watchful eye of a skilled workman and in the blazing heat of the tropical sun!
All of the young volunteers were very impressed by these young Cambodians who have an insatiable thirst for knowledge and sharing, always keen to get involved in any activity and sometimes even begging for extra lessons!
So, well done to Constance, Lucie, Margaux, Axelle, Baptiste, Côme, Léonard and all of the others for their commitment to the home over the summer! It goes without saying that all of the children really appreciated everything that the young volunteers did for them.
